Socially savvy students from St. Lawrence College Ontario storm #pivotcon

In education, social business, social media

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting and speaking with 3rd year marketing students from St. Lawrence College, Ontario at the Pivot conference in New York this week.

I came across Sabrina Eshoo (@SabrinaEshoo) via a tweet she posted arguing her case as to why she should get a free pass to Pivoton.

It reminded me a lot of myself when back at University in Adelaide, and I was looking for a vacation work placement – I needed to do something to stand out from the crowd and get noticed.

That was back in 1993 – well before social media.

I was delighted to hear that Sabrina, and some of her classmates including Jesse Whale (@iamjesselouise) and their teacher Lindsey Fair (@lindseyfair) made it to the Pivot Conference from Ontario.  The class even has their own hashtag #imcslc to mark tweets relevant to their course.

On the second day of the conference, they invited me to a Google hangout, where I was able to interact with Sabrina and Jesse’s class members back in Ontario and have a discussion about Kred, social media and influence.

I was flattered to be asked to contribute to their lesson, and I believe that all leaders in social have an obligation to help guide and coach the next generation of socially savvy marketers.

Hats off to Lindsey for being a very forward thinking teacher and exposing her students directly to the latest thinkers and latest thinking in social.
